FAQ: ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 Keyboard (Backlit + TrackPoint / Pointer)

Q1: Are there two keyboard versions for ThinkPad P14s Gen 3?

A: Yes. P14s Gen3 keyboards have two physical variants, not interchangeable:

• Backlit version: with LED keyboard backlight

• Non-backlit version: no backlight Both come with built-in TrackPoint (red pointing stick + 3 top TrackPoint buttons). The backlit and non-backlit keyboards use different internal cables / connectors. You cannot add backlight by swapping just the cap; you must install the correct backlit keyboard assembly.

Q2: How do I tell if I need backlit or non-backlit keyboard?

A:

1. Check your original keyboard space bar: backlit keyboards have a backlight symbol on the spacebar.

2. Check FRU part number printed on the back of your original keyboard (most reliable).

3. Look up your laptop serial number on Lenovo PSREF / Parts lookup.

Q3: Does this keyboard include TrackPoint pointer and the 3 TrackPoint buttons?

A: Yes. Our replacement keyboard comes with the integrated TrackPoint pointing stick, three upper TrackPoint click buttons, and the rubber TrackPoint cap pre-installed. Trackpad is separate, not included.

Q4: Can I use a backlit keyboard to replace a non-backlit original?

A: Only if your laptop internal wiring supports the backlight circuit. Many base non-backlit chassis do NOT have the backlight cable routed. If your original is non-backlit, backlit keyboard may install physically but the backlight will not light up.

Q5: Shortcut to control keyboard backlight

A: Press Fn + Spacebar to cycle modes: Off → Low brightness → High brightness. This works only for genuine backlit SKUs.

Q6: Are these spill-resistant?

A: Yes, same as original ThinkPad 6-row spill-resistant layout, with Fn multimedia keys.

Q7: After install, keys work but TrackPoint / backlight does not work

A:

1. Power off laptop, disconnect charger, re-seat the keyboard ribbon cable fully.

2. Check you purchased the correct FRU: backlit vs non-backlit.

3. Update Lenovo BIOS / Lenovo Vantage.

4. Verify the motherboard has the backlight power line if you upgraded from non-backlit.

Q8: Warranty

A: 12-month warranty. For DOA, dead keys or factory defect, replacement or refund available. Please save order ID and photos of original keyboard FRU sticker.

Q9: Compatibility note

A: Fits ThinkPad P14s Gen3, also compatible with ThinkPad T14 Gen3. Does NOT fit P14 Gen2, P14s Gen2 / Gen4.
